Two Roofs Transformed in Worthing and Walls Rising in Lewes

In Worthing, an old polycarbonate roof is now an insulated flat roof with a lantern, and a second conservatory has a new tiled roof. In Lewes, insulated cavity walls are going up.

Busy week on site, so let’s get into it.

Worthing, West Sussex

Polycarbonate Roof Out, Flat Roof and Lantern In

  • The old polycarbonate roof has come off this bungalow conservatory. It looked tired and did very little to hold heat in or keep it out.
  • We talked through a few options with the homeowners, and they chose a flat roof orangery style with a lantern. It gives them a solid, insulated ceiling with a big pool of light right in the middle of the room.
  • A brand new warm roof system is now on. The insulation sits above the structure, which keeps the room at a steadier temperature all year.
  • To tie it in properly, we cut back the soffit and fascia on the bungalow and joined the new roof into the house, then did the same on the other side. That is what makes it look built in, not bolted on.
  • For the homeowners, it means a room that is warm in winter, comfortable in summer and still full of light.

Insulated Walls Going Up in the Closest Matching Brick

  • The base is in and the walls are going up. We have put in a proper base and built insulated cavity walls with a full fill, so this room stays warm right through winter.
  • The original brick could not be sourced, so we found the closest match we could. The aim is always for the new space to look like it has always been part of the house.
  • Two steps have been built from the new doors down to the garden, using a slab that matches the existing patio. A small detail, but it makes the whole space flow.
  • We spray the site down at the end of every major stage. It keeps things clean and safe, and means the homeowners are not living with mess between stages.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for this one. It is going to be incredible once it is finished.

Tiled Roof Upgrade Turns a Little-Used Conservatory Into a Year-Round Room

  • This large conservatory was not getting much use. It had the age-old problem of being too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
  • We stripped off the old roof and fitted a brand new, highly insulated tiled roof system, fully compliant with Building Regulations.
  • You can see the graphite insulation on the inside in the photos. That is what keeps the heat in during the depths of winter and keeps the room comfortable at the height of summer.
  • Outside, it is finished in a red metro tile to suit the house, with two Velux roof windows letting plenty of light into the space.
  • The result is a room the family can actually use all year round, not just on the odd mild day.
