Gable Conservatory Rebuild Turns Failing Structure into a Usable Living Space

The customer had an old wooden conservatory that was reaching the end of its lifespan. Ongoing leaks and poor insulation meant the space was no longer usable. The aim was to rebuild the conservatory so it could be used all year while keeping the look and feel they were familiar with.

The Challenge:

The existing structure suffered from temperature extremes and water ingress, making it uncomfortable and unreliable. Despite this, the customer liked the original shape and height of the conservatory. The challenge was to retain this character while delivering a modern structure that performed properly and made the space functional again.

Our Approach:

We recommended a full rebuild while retaining the existing base and walls, which were structurally sound. This helped control costs while providing a strong foundation for the new build. The gable design was kept to maintain the familiar shape and ceiling height, which also allowed more light to enter through the front elevation. A super insulated tiled roof was installed to ensure year-round comfort. Large panes of glass without horizontal bars were specified to provide clear, uninterrupted views of the garden. The red tiled roof finish was selected to match the main house and tie the structure together visually.

The Results:

The new conservatory has transformed the space into a room that is comfortable and usable throughout the year. It retains the character and proportions the customer liked, while performing like a modern extension. The gable front creates a strong visual feature and allows natural light to fill the room, and the clear glazing opens up views into the garden. What was once an unused and failing structure is now a practical and enjoyable part of the home. It has quickly become the grandchildren’s favourite playroom, often filled with toys and activity, which reflects how well the room now works for family life.
