This project replaced a small, inefficient conservatory with a spacious orangery in a traditional style. Located at the rear of a family home, the aim was to extend and open up the existing kitchen-lounge area, creating a bright, usable, open-plan kitchen-lounge-diner that blended naturally with the rest of the home.
The original conservatory was too small, poorly insulated, and offered little functionality. The clients wanted a space that could comfortably house a dining area and integrate fully with their kitchen and lounge. It was important that the build preserved kitchen access and garden usability during works, while maintaining the home’s aesthetic and providing excellent year-round comfort.
We designed a traditional orangery extension with solid corner pillars for structural stability and visual continuity. A flat roof with central lantern brought natural light deep into the space. Vertical radiators were matched to the home’s décor, and the open-plan layout was carefully tied into the existing kitchen and lounge. Construction was planned to avoid major disruption, ensuring the family could continue using the kitchen and garden throughout.
The finished orangery is warm, bright, and inviting — a fully integrated extension that feels like part of the original home. The lantern floods the room with light, while solid insulation ensures year-round usability. A new patio area extends the living space outdoors, and the project was completed with minimal disruption, allowing seamless installation of new flooring throughout.
